Excerpt from a 19th century letter, on a cattle drive

I come too far to stop now.
I hurt real proper
and some say I should see
a doctor.

But I won't have none of it,
as a man should always do
what he set out to do and not quit.

If a man says he's gonna go from one
side o' the country to the other,
then he ought to do it,
for no better reason than he said
he was gonna.

"Quittin is somethin' that quitters do,
and that ain't our kind son"

is simply what pappy always
sayd.
