remember when we were gods
and angels
ancient machines sputtered, roared,
ripped through paradise.
we left tokens, offerings,
robes, strange fruit and incense
by the back gate
hid oursleves in alien garb
danced to the river with dieties
watched bodies burn
in celebration
Humbled by pyramid meditations
we sat silently by the square lakes
waiting for what
had been
promised
